Good Reasons to COVER Your Compost Pile

Good reasons to COVER your compost pile with a tarp:  

• The sun won't bleach it out (allowing your green grass to "cook" slower)
•  Rain won't water log the pile (holding heat in)
•  BIRDS won't take worms out of the pile (those worms leave behind some very good stuff)

 

I turned a fresh pile Thursday (I've been keeping a blue tarp over it this year), and my worm count has quadrupled since covering. I came back to the pile about 30 minutes later to cover it and robins were flocking to the thing until I got it covered!
